| These are a traditional French chocolate given at Christmas time. Each one has a ginger, raisin, cranberry and almond topping. The toppings aren't quite traditional but we think they work well together.
Originally the nuts and dried fruit toppings represented the four mendicant or monastic orders of the Dominicans, Augustinians, Franciscans and Carmelites. Each of the nuts and dried fruits used refer to the colour of monastic robes with tradition dictating raisins for the Dominicans, hazelnut for the Augustinians, dried fig for Franciscans and almond for Carmelites. - Now you know!! |
